Disneyland and the 2012 Romance Writers of America Conference are over. I had such a great week! Thanks to everyone who came out to make the event extra special. On Wednesday I saw my printed book for the very first time and signed copies at the RWA literacy autographing. On Saturday I signed copies at the Kensington open house. Both times the books went like hot cakes. :) If you are in the Seattle area, I’d love to see you at the Hearts of Darkness Launch Party on August 10 (next friday) at 7 pm at Secret Garden Books in Ballard.… Read more »

Yesterday was the release day of Hearts of Fire, my very first story. This Romeo & Juliet novella is a prequel to the Deadglass Trilogy (but you don’t have to read it first). Available for Amazon kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook for a buck. To celebrate, here’s an excerpt from the beginning of Hearts of Fire. It’s set a century and a quarter before the events of Hearts of Darkness (book 1). HEARTS OF FIRE, a Deadglass Novella Seattle, 1889 She didn’t want to like him. The stranger was too pretty, for one. Too arrogant, for another, and the… Read more »

It’s been a stressful few months, not at all keeping with what the beginning of the Summer of Awesome should be, so it’s time to embrace the sun (quick! run outside, Seattleittes, and see it now!) and get this big adventure started off right. Please join me in kicking the Deadglass Trilogy off with a contest for 3 autographed ARCs and cover flats of the book Publishers Weekly called, “Dazzling…thrilling…irresistible.” I’ll be celebrating all summer long with book contests and a blog tour, sharing details of my Grand Tour of Europe, and giving away Scottish tea, Seattle coffee, and Swiss… Read more »

Hearts of Fire, the reimagining of the great Seattle Fire and the start of the Drekar-Kivati War in the Deadglass World, is finally available for preorder! This novella is ebook only and will be released June 26. I had some fun writing this Romeo and Juliet tale of two wide-eyed dreamers from enemy races. It’s not necessary to read Hearts of Fire before Hearts of Darkness (especially when I wrote Hearts of Darkness and half of Hearts of Shadow before I ever thought about writing a novella!), but it’s a fun read and provides some background to the gritty modern… Read more »

I am pleased to announce my very first official interview! And it’s in Publishers Weekly, no less. In it I expound upon the Deadglass Trilogy and the inspiration behind my haunted, alternate Seattle. I also chat about my favorite books growing up–all Young Adult Fantasy–and why I chose Norse/Babylonian/Native American mythology for the trilogy. From Urban Planning to Urban Fantasy: PW Talks with Kira Brady By Julie Naughton May 11, 2012 Kira Brady’s studies in urban planning and historic preservation helped her create a fantastical alternate Seattle in Hearts of Darkness, the first in a paranormal romance trilogy.… Read more »

I did it. I finished my second novel, book 2 of the Deadglass Trilogy. I love these characters and this world, but can I say that 11 months is too long to spend working on a single book? These last two months have been great in forcing me to make dedicated time to write; there is nothing like a deadline to get the creative juices flowing. For my next book, the 3rd and final novel of the Deadglass Trilogy, I plan to spend the first month PLOTTING, the next three months writing, and an easy two final months editing. I’ve… Read more »
