Gifts for readers: My new Kindle case
I’m so excited by my new kindle paperwhite case from my wonderful critique partner, Joy Adare. She knows me so well! The case is made out of an old hardback copy of Peter Pan, which was my favorite book growing up and still has much sentimental value to me. Mr. Kira finally read it last year (after 8 years of marriage), and was a bit horrified by the characters. I agree there are none to look up to. I wouldn’t want J to emulate Wendy or fall in love with Peter (the horror!). But I still like the commentary on… Read more »

Book love – January edition
I’ve read four books in the last week. FOUR. This might be a record since my pre-baby days. *sighs wistfully* Back in those carefree days of wanderlust and youthful exuberance, I read a book a day on average. Now it’s a luxury I hurridly squeeze in between the baby’s bedtime and my own. I usually give a book a chapter to hook me. Sometimes though, even though a book is enjoyable, I simply drift away and forget I was reading it until months later in a frantic cleaning rage I find the poor, neglected novel under a layer of board… Read more »

Release mania: My TBR pile grows
Good thing I bought the kindle–my tottering To-Be-Read pile is now in compact, massless form. On the flip side, perhaps I wouldn’t buy so many books if it wasn’t so easy. ONE CLICK WONDER. The first page of my kindle is filled with yet-to-be-read books, and all of them look good. I just haven’t had time to read them yet. We’ve been on the road exploring the wide blue skies of the southwest. Desert and juniper trees and tumbleweeds. Yesterday was an explosion of new releases that I want to read, including: SHADOWKIN by M.J. Scott. We share the same… Read more »

Revisions, Revisions
I’ve fallen off the blogging wagon, again, pretty quickly. I could say it’s because I’ve been sick, again, or because Mr. Kira went out of town, again, or because the baby has been sick, again. All would be right. Let’s reevaluate our blogging reality, shall we? New achievable goal: I promise to blog once a week on Mondays. I need to spend more time writing anyway. You don’t care, do you? I didn’t think so. Blogging is so 2004. I have news: my revisions from my editor arrived! He had lovely things to say about book 1 and only a… Read more »

Book love: Rampant by Diana Peterfreund
Sometimes you come across a book that seems like it was written just for you. I feel this way about Rampant. It’s like Ms. Peterfreund plucked from my mind these themes and issues I’ve been mulling over recently, put them into words, and crafted a beautiful tapestry out of them. The themes of female empowerment, virginity, and what it means to be a woman in the modern era are not new, but I’m looking at them with new eyes now that I have a daughter. Strong themes separate out the truly unforgettable books from the simply interesting and enjoyable books.… Read more »

Wednesday is Book Day
Wednesday is hump day. How do you get over the hump? With a good book of course. Tell me what you’ve been reading and what you are dying to get your hands on. I’ll start. What I’ve been reading:   After polishing off the last Dark Swan novel by Richelle Mead (Iron Crowned), I wanted more Mead, so I picked up the Georginia Kincaid series. It helped that Amazon had the first title on sale on Kindle–hard to resist a sale on a book I actually want to read. Succubus Blues was just what I was in the mood for: a… Read more »

What I’ve been reading…
A little of this, a little of that. I have very little time to read these days, but it only makes me appreciate it that much more. Here are some good ones for your reading pleasure: SHIP BREAKER by Paolo Bacigalupi – Dystopian Young Adult. It was quite as good as those peeps on the internetz said it would be WICKED BECOMES YOU by Meredith Duran – Victorian Romance. Our book club book this month, and a rousing success. I love her! TRIAL BY DESIRE by Courtney Milan – Victorian Romance. Nicely layered characters. WICKED GAME by Jill Myles –… Read more »
