Hearts of Darkness nominated for a GraveTells Reader Choice Award

Happy news to share today: Hearts of Darkness was nominated for a GraveTells September 2012 Readers Choice Award! They had some lovely things to say about Hearts of Darkness in their review earlier this month:

Hearts of Darkness is a GraveTells Must-Read!….Hearts of Darkness was fantastic! Brady’s work is chock full of information as well as Norse and Babylonian mythology, but was so well written that it didn’t overwhelm or appear confusing and the writing was so detailed that the story ran like a hi-def movie in my head. The story is told from the point of view of the many well-developed characters that gave a fabulous look into the story through their eyes that I found refreshing and made reading all the more enjoyable. I look forward to reading the follow up, Hearts of Shadow (Deadglass #2).

Voting is open now and will close at 8pm PST on Saturday the 29th of September, so if you liked Hearts of Darkness, please hop over and vote for it. Click here to vote!

Northwest Book Fest this weekend

Calling all Seattle-area book lovers: this weekend is Northwest Book Fest! There will be tons of local authors, writing panels, book signings, and entertainment. I went last year and saw the Smart Chicks Kick It! Tour with YA authors Melissa Marr, Kelley Armstrong, Richelle Mead, Margaret Stohl, Rachel Caine, Rachel Vincent and more (unfortunately not happening this year, but it was fun). I also watched a panel with Cherie Priest and Kat Richardson, and a couple middle grade/YA panels. Highly recommended!

At the 2011 Queens of Romance Tea with Susan Mallory, Elizabeth Boyle, and Lisa Kleypas

For romance readers, the big event is Sunday, 1-2:30, at the Queens of Romance Tea with Elizabeth Boyle, Yasmine Galenorn, Teresa Meyers, and Susan Wiggs. I also went to this last year and won a ginormous gift basket from Susan Mallory. Reservations are required – email or call 425.828.6546.

I might be there wandering around. It’s a great event.

A Pregnant Pause

Hearts of Darkness has been out for a month! Yay! You might have noticed a glaring lack of blog posts this summer, even when I had so much to share. The Summer of Awesome was…awesome…and nauseating…and busy. I wanted to blog about the month long trip to Europe and share photos, and the trip to RWA and Disneyland, and more posts on the book launch, but life has been put on semi-pause. I’m 17 weeks pregnant with my second child, and this one has been a lot harder than the first. Chasing after a two-year-old can be tiring enough without the nausea and pregnancy fatigue! And my brain seems to have fallen out somewhere over the Atlantic. Pregnancy Brain is not a joke. *sob* I had all these plans for summer and the fall, but I’ve been forced to rest whenever I can. I’m still working on getting the contest books out to winners, finishing up book 3, Hearts of Chaos (Feb 2014), and writing up an “extras” page for the website with Deadglass art and a Drekar/Kivati cheat sheet. It WILL be done!

The Emerald City Writers Conference is just around the corner. If you’re in the Seattle area, please stop by the Bellevue Westin on Saturday, October 27th for the book fair. I will be signing copies of Hearts of Darkness along with a host of other awesome authors.

Announcement: Audio book in production!

I’m happy to announce that Blackstone Audio has purchased the audio rights to Hearts of Fire and Hearts of Darkness, with Xe Sands narrating. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with Ms Sands on the phone, and I absolutely love her voice. It’s going to be so much fun to listen to her narrate the books! Knowing she might (hopefully) narrate the rest of the series, I keep thinking about reading the sentences out loud as I’m working on Hearts of Chaos (Deadglass #3). I tweeted, “Am tempted to write things like, ‘The gaslight glinted off the gears and tempered glass,’ just for when @XeSands narrates book 3.” She kindly showed me that I’ll have to work harder on my tongue twisters if I want to trip her up! ;) You can get a sneak peak of her lovely voice reading that sentence five times fast here: . I don’t know when the audio books are scheduled to come out, but I’ll update the book pages when I find out.

In other news, some of the contests to win a print copy of Hearts of Darkness are over soon. Go check out my guest posts at Literary Escapism (contest ends Aug 31), All Things Urban Fantasy (contest ends Sept 1), Tynga’s Book Reviews (contest ends Sept 5), and A Little Bit Tart, A Little Bit Sweet.

Release Day!!!

Hello my lovelies! It’s release day for Hearts of Darkness! *throws confetti* Have you been dying to get your hands on the book Publishers Weekly named one of the best books of summer? Have you been waiting with bated breath to read the book Jane at Dear Author said was rocking her world? Can you not wait to envision Babylonian/Norse/Native American mythology and a hint of gaslight in a gritty alternate Seattle? Wait not, dear hearts, for release day is HERE!

Hearts of Darkness

PW Best Summer Books

Of course, some of you noticed that Hearts of Darkness was in your local bookstore already. I’m pretty sure my mom bought the first copy. THE REST OF YOU: I would love pictures of my debut in the wild, so to speak, so if you would be so kind as to snap a pic and either email it to kirabradyauthor @ or tweet it to me @kirabrady, I would be ever so grateful. I’m going to make a facebook album.

I’m really excited that Seattle Public Library ordered 6 copies and already has 8 hold requests. :) Need more reasons to try it? Here is the latest fabulous review from the lovely ladies at A Little Bit Tart, A Little Bit Sweet. “Wonderfully written, engaging, and sexy.  This isn’t a book you can flip through casually, because it’s enchanting and complex and worth every minute that you’ll spend devouring it.”

To celebrate, I’m blog hopping around the interwebs this week. You have a chance or two to win a copy of Hearts of Darkness every day. Please check the event page for links. Contests from yesterday are still ongoing, and today there are two more chances to win at The Qwillery and Literary Escapism. Since there are many copies of my own book up for grabs, today on my blog–right here–I’m giving away one copy each of four other fabulous new releases.

Mina Wentworth and the Invisible City
by Meljean Brook

I love Meljean’s books, and I especially adore the Iron Seas series. If you haven’t read the Iron Duke yet, run–don’t walk–out to your nearest bookstore and rectify the situation. You’ll thank me.

Eight months after the events of The Iron Duke, can Rhys and Mina’s marriage survive a new threat? When newly-married Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth is called to investigate a bounder’s murder, she doesn’t expect the mysterious machine she finds…or the danger that leads back to her husband.

Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews

I also love the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. This is an offshoot book about Andrea, Kate’s best friend. It is recommended to read the novella Magic Mourns in the Must Love Hellhounds anthology first. Of course, I recommend you read every book in the entire series for sheer awesomeness.

After being kicked out of the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea’s whole existence is in shambles. She tries to put herself back together by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend. When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano—the male alpha of the Clan Bouda, and Andrea’s former lover—die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate. Now she must work with Raphael as her search for the killer leads into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta. And dealing with her feelings for him might have to take a back seat to saving the world…

Sweet Deception by Heather Snow

I love historical romance, and Heather writes smart heroines. Her first was a chemist, her second (this book) is a criminologist. Who doesn’t love smart chicks who kick ass in ball gowns?

Lady criminologist, Miss Emma Wallingford, unknowingly finds herself tangled in the dangerous final mission of Lord Derick Aveline, a spy who also happens to be her long lost first love. But when deception, however sweet, is the name of the game, no one can be trusted. And every love–and every life–is at risk.

Moonglow by Kristin Callihan

Victorian romance + paranormal romance = love.

Freed from a harsh marriage, Daisy Ellis Craigmore craves all life has to offer. When she becomes the only surviving witness to a string of brutal murders, Daisy is drawn into the investigation. Ian Ranulf, Marquis of Northup, rushed to the scene of the crime, knowing one of his kind was the killer. He is intent upon finding the rogue lycan before the authorities — and that means protecting Daisy. Unable to keep her in the dark about the killer’s identity or his primal nature, Ian leaves his world and joins hers. Digging deeper into the hunt leads to secrets that shock Daisy and Ian as they rush to stop murders and save their souls.

To enter: please leave a comment telling me which book you would most like to read and why. will pick four winners (one for each book). Void where prohibited. Sorry, but shipping to North America only, unless it’s an ebook, in which case it’s available wherever you are geographically nonrestricted. Contest open until midnight PST August 10, 2012.

Awesomeness Abounds: New Website, New Art

Frauke Spanuth of Croco Designs has designed an AWESOME new website for me. See the pretty? See the gaslights and grunge and raven? She is a miracle worker. I LOVE IT. I fully admit I have particular tastes but a difficulty expressing what I want. It’s like she reached into my head and plucked the design out of my deepest imaginings, and it’s perfect. I’ll be adding some content over the next week, but if there is anything you’d like to see, please let me know.

Legend for the Deadglass Map by Teresa Grasseschi

I’m also incredibly excited that Teresa Grasseschi, the artist working on my Deadglass sketches, has finished! I’ll be displaying the finished pieces through my blog tour next week and then adding them all together on the website in an Extras page. I can’t wait to show you how beautiful they are! If you’re coming to the book launch party on Friday, August 10 7 pm at Secret Garden Books, I will also have them displayed. She made me a map of Deadglass Seattle so you can get the full layout of the Drekar and Kivati battle lines. The Deadglass legend is awesome.

Both times the books went like hot cakes. :)
